Jaivik Punjab
I am Lovepreet Singh and I live in Kapial village of Sangrur district with my family (father, grandfather, mother and sister). I had a choice to pursue job and live in the city after my graduation (B.tech), but I chose to stay in my village and then I decided to start farming. Farming was never a primary source of income for my family, because my father (Mr. Sant Pal Singh) was settled in Dubai and he had stable income. So, in the beginning (2008-2009), I started organic farming of wheat in just 1 acre.
Slowly with the time my interest grew in agriculture field and then I decided to completely adopt organic farming. I got my land soil sample tested by Punjab Agro and took rest of the land back from the farmers. I started cultivating turmeric and also processing it myself. But my father was against organic farming because he thought that organic has less productivity. I was very determined, so I ignored negative criticism and continued with my work. To increase my income I started farming turmeric on large area as compared to wheat. In the beginning, I faced some problems but after taking expert’s advice condition was better. I used cow and buffalo dung in my farm to increase the fertility of the soil.
